Israel’s opposition leader, Yair Lapid, said he informed the US government that Netanyahu has his support for a deal to free captives and end the conflict in Gaza, Al Jazeera reports.

Lapid wrote on X that such a move would have majority backing in both the Knesset and across Israel, dismissing threats from far-right ministers Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich as “empty”.

Lapid, a fierce critic of Netanyahu, has often clashed with him over the conduct of the war.
