ISLAMABAD: Denmark’s Chargé d’Affaires, Peter Emil Nielsen, on Thursday said that he looked forward to expanding cooperation with Pakistan in the energy sector for another three years.
“Plans are being shaped to further strengthen this partnership under a Strategic Sector Cooperation (SSC) programme for the energy sector,” Peter Emil Nielson announced at a dinner reception held here in honour of a high-level delegation from the Danish Energy Agency (DEA). The delegation was being led by the Director of Centre for Global Cooperation, Carl-Christian Munk-Nielsen.
The event gathered government officials, representatives from the energy sector, climate action stakeholders, and members of the donor community.
Among guests were Federal Minister for Climate Change, Dr Musadik Masood Malik, Minister of State at the Ministry of Climate Change, Dr Shezra Ali Khan, and the Special Advisor to the Prime Minister on Power, Muhammad Ali.
In his opening remarks, Peter Nielsen extended heartfelt condolences to the people of Pakistan on the devastating loss of lives and destruction caused by recent cloudbursts and floods.
He noted that these tragic events are a reminder of urgent climate action and underlined the importance of continued collaboration between Denmark and Pakistan in building a sustainable and resilient future.
Federal Minister for Climate Change, Dr Musadik Masood Malik, welcomed Denmark’s continued engagement in Pakistan’s energy and climate transition, emphasising that such international partnerships are vital to addressing shared challenges and unlocking new opportunities.
Dr Musadik Malik said that the devastating floods were the real cost of not going green, especially when Pakistan had the lowest carbon footprint.
Seven countries responsible for contributing 70 per cent to global warming were the same countries taking 85pc of the green finances. “This is borderline green hierocracy,” he said.
He added Pakistan would like to be a partner of Denmark for posterity by building the resilience of communities that faced the wrath of climate change.
Mr Nielsen also spoke on the occasion, outlining the DEA delegation’s ongoing visit and areas where future cooperation may be focused, including renewable energy development, energy efficiency, and climate resilience.
The reception served as a platform for dialogue among government counterparts, development partners, and stakeholders, reinforcing the shared ambition of Denmark and Pakistan to pursue a cleaner and more sustainable energy future together.
