LAKKI MARWAT: Two law enforcement personnel were martyred in separate gun attacks in Lakki Marwat and Bannu districts, police said on Wednesday.

They said that a soldier of paramilitary force embraced martyrdom when unknown terrorists attacked him near his house in Wanda Painda Khan area of Lakki Marwat.

They said that the incident occurred in the area limits of Saddar police station. The FC Balochistan soldier, Zainullah was outside his house when terrorists opened fire at him, they added.

The police said the soldier, who had come to the village on leave, was critically injured in the attack and was rushed to the Government City Hospital.

Later, Zainullah was referred to a hospital in Bannu but he could not survive and his body was brought back to the city hospital to fulfil medico-legal formalities, they said.

After the attack, a large police contingent reached the venue and launched a search in the surrounding areas to arrest the assailants.

Separately, a police official embraced martyrdom when unknown armed motorcyclists opened fire on him near his house in Ghoriwala town of Bannu district on Tuesday night.

A police official identified the deceased as Zahirullah, saying that he was critically injured in the attack and was transported to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to injuries.

He said that the martyred policeman was posted to the special branch, an intelligence wing of the police department.

The funeral prayers of the martyred police official were offered at the police lines attended among others by Regional police officer Sajjad Khan, DPO Saleem Abbas Kulachi, DSP special branch Mufeez Khan, relatives of the deceased and area elders.

A police contingent presented a final salute to their fallen colleague while police officials put floral wreaths on his coffin.

On the occasion, the regional police chief paid rich tribute to the martyred cop and said that the supreme sacrifice offered by him would not go in vain.

“The terrorists are on the run from police and law enforcement agencies and they will be brought to justice by all means,” he said.
