Journalist Mazhar Sheikh passes away

ISLAMABAD: Prominent journalist Mazhar Sheikh passed away on Sunday. He was 62.

A day earlier, the deceased had a bypass surgery at a private hospital in Islamabad. Although the surgery was successful, the next day his health suddenly deteriorated and breathed his last.

Funeral prayer and burial was held at Eidgah graveyard in Rawalpindi. The deceased is survived by his wife and two daughters.

According to Zaman Mughal, a close companion and former colleague of the deceased, Mazhar Sheikh served in a number of media houses and newspapers including Pakistan Observer, Kainat, Asas and Jahan Pakistan.

“He served in Khabrain and Channel 5 for almost 16 years.

He was among those journalists who was known to have critical information in their beats. As he was one of the most senior crime reporters, it was unanimously decided to elect him as president of the Islamabad Crime Reporters Association (ICRA),” Mr Mughal said.

Meanwhile Inspector General Police (IGP) Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi expressed condolences on the passing of journalist Mazhar Sheikh.

The IGP expressed deep sorrow and grief over his demise, stating that the late Mazhar Sheikh’s contributions to the field of journalism will always be remembered.
