King’s College at the University of Cambridge says it has decided to divest from companies that produce military and nuclear weapons, as well as those involved in illegal activities, such as occupation, Al Jazeera reports.
The move comes after students at the college have staged protests, including setting up a protest camp, urging the institution to cut ties with groups that are “complicit in Israel’s genocide” in Gaza.
In a statement, the college has said its new policy is the culmination of many months of work and wide-ranging discussions about the relationship between its investments and its values, prompted by the occupation of Ukraine and Palestinian territory.
It also has noted that, in the past, it committed to removing all exposure to fossil fuel investments by 2030.
