BAHAWALPUR: Jalalpur Pirwala administration in district Lodhran raided a fake cigarette factory, arrested 34 workers and seized two truckloads of fake cigarettes.

On a tip-off, a police team, led by Jalalpur Pirwala Assistant Commissioner Zulfiqar Ali Khan, raided the factory on the Multan Road where 34 workers were engaged in the packing fake cigarettes.

The team confiscated two trucks laden with fake cigarettes along with the factory’s machinery and material. The trucks were being dispatched to other cities for the sale of cigarettes to retailers. The factory owner managed to escape. A case was registered against him.

RETRIEVED: The railway administration retrieved land worth Rs30m from the grabbers in Sammasatta-Bahawalnagar section.

In a major anti-encroachment operation, the railway administration retrieved valuable commerical land at the abandoned railway stations in Sammasatta-Bahawalnagar section, including Lal Sohanra, Bahawalnagar and Samasatta junction. Cases were registered against the encroachers.

MELA: The annual five-day Jashn-e-Baharan kicked off at Awan Chowk, Mubarakpur, from May 1.

The Bahawalpur deputy commissioner while granting permission to one Muhammad Altaf to hold the festival laid down 32 terms and conditions.

The prescribed terms and conditions strictly directed the organiser to arrange security measures on their own and in case of violation, organizers shall be proceeded against under the law.

A large number of cultivators and area people would be participating in the festival being held after harvesting the wheat. It will conclude on May 1.
