Man gunned down in DHA ‘over personal enmity’
KARACHI: A man was shot dead in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) on Friday evening, police and rescue services officials said.
South-SSP Mahzoor Ali told Dawn that the victim, Mudasir Riaz, 35, was shot and killed in Khayaban-i-Abbasi, Phase-VII. He was a civilian and worked as an electrician at Naval Dockyard as well as a part time delivery rider, added the SSP.
On Friday evening, the deceased dropped a passenger at a private university in the DHA and was returning when two suspects, also on a motorcycle, opened fire on him. As a result, he died on the spot, the officer said, adding that the suspects did not take away his valuables.
Therefore, he ruled out the possibility of a robbery attempt and opined that the murder might be an outcome of a personal enmity.
The victim hailed from Jhang and was living in a rented house along with other persons at Kala Pul.
The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.
Elderly man killed in Rasheedabad
A 63-year-old man was gunned down in the Rasheedabad area of Baldia Town on Friday morning.
The Site-B police said that the deceased, Mohammed Rashid, was shot and killed near GSK Company.
Keamari SSP Faizan Ali ruled out the possibility of the robbery attempt. He said the victim was riding a motorcycle when two suspects, also on a motorcycle and who were chasing him, opened straight fire on him and fled.
The officer opined that the incident seemed to be an outcome of some personal enmity.
The body was shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal proceedings.
Police arrest ‘robber’ who killed citizen
Police claimed to have arrested a suspected robber who killed a citizen over resistance the other day.
Landhi SP Majida Halepoto while speaking at a press conference said three robbers committed as many robberies on April 22 in Zaman Town and wounded a citizen named Mohammed Irfan, 61 who later on died. The victim was the father of four children. The police arrested the main suspect, Faisal alias Shahzad, while his two accomplices were still at large. The officer said the held suspect belonged to the “Bengali dacoit gang” which is active in Korangi and Malir districts.
