Ring Road to boost Potohar region’s economy: minister

GUJAR KHAN: The Rawalpindi Ring Road originating from the Banth Point in Gujar Khan and circumferencing the suburban areas of Rawalpindi city is going to be a game-changer for the Potohar region.

This was stated by Bilal Azhar Kiani, the Minister of State for Railways while talking to Dawn in Jhelum on Friday.

“The linkage of the under-construction Sialkot-Kharian-Rawalpindi motorway passing through northern Gujar Khan would boost the local economies of the Jhelum, Dina, Mirpur, Gujar Khan, Kallar Syedan and Kahuta areas of the Potohar region,” he said.

Mr Kiani said that these key projects, like many others, were envisioned and started by former prime minister Mian Nawaz Sharif to materialise his slogan of making Pakistan an Asian tiger.

The minister said after coming into power, the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz-led government has accelerated these projects.

Mr Kiani said the Ring Road was being completed under the supervision of the Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz who has directed the authorities to ensure its quality.

The minister further said that the freight traffic and Peshawar-bound traffic would also be spared from creating traffic jams in the twin cities.

The minister also highlighted the prime minister’s decision to reduce electricity tariffs and said that it was the result of better management on financial and economic fronts.

Mr Kiani said that the Istehkam-e-Pakistan and Uraan Pakistan vision designed and practised by Prime Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif was bearing fruits in the shape of economic stability and reduction in inflation.
