Palestinian rights group calls on Interpol to arrest Netanyahu in Hungary

Ramallah-based rights group Al-Haq said Hungary’s hosting of wanted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was an “egregious” act and called on the international policing agency, Interpol, to arrest the Israeli leader, Al Jazeera reports.

“Welcoming the wanted war criminal Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to Hungary” was in clear defiance of the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) order to arrest him and transfer him to The Hague on suspicion of war crimes in Gaza, Al-Haq said in a statement.

Hungary’s invitation to Netanyahu and its announced withdrawal from the ICC was contributing to the “dismantling of the international legal framework”, the rights group said in a statement.

“Al-Haq calls on Interpol to intervene to ensure the necessary steps are taken by Hungarian authorities to arrest Netanyahu and for the Hungarian Bar Association and lawyers to take legal action,” Al-Haq said.
