Pakistan dominate in Asian taekwondo

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s taekwondo team made a strong impression on the fourth day of the Com­baxx seventh Asian Taekwondo Open Cham­pionships, securing a total of 21 medals, including five gold, six silver and 10 bronze medals in the Kyorugi event here at the Pakistan Sports Complex.

On Monday, Wania Najam won gold in the female -55kg category, while Zainab Zahid took silver and Hamna Maqsood and Umama Gul secured bronze.

Syed Abdullah clinched gold in the male -63kg division, with Fawad Rahman earning silver, and Mohammad Hadi Ejaz and Rana Tanveer Ahmed winning bronze.

Mahar Muhammad Ahmad Raza bagged gold in the male +73kg, with Aslam Zain winning silver, and Umair Khan grabbing bronze.

The female -63kg saw Maiza Imtiaz Butt winning the gold. Abdar Hussain earned silver, and Bibishota Sharipova from Tajikistan and Myrish Alam took bronze.

Mamoona Naseer reigned supreme in the female +63kg category. Bareera Munaf, meanwhile, claimed silver and Eman Rashid and Warisha Zulfiqar settled for a bronze.

The championship, which began with Poomsae events on the first two days, will conclude on Feb 20.
