ISLAMABAD: The Excise and Taxation Department of Islamabad on Tuesday issued a 15 daysdeadline to vehicles’ owners to pay the token tax to avoid cancellation of registration over non-payment.

The Excise and Taxation Office said that decision was made to cancel the registration of the vehicles over non-payment of the token tax. The cancellation of the vehicle’s registration over non-payment of the toke tax will be started from January 1.

The office’s software will identify such vehicles and after the given time their registration will be cancelled. After the cancellation, the owner will pay 200 percent fine/penalty for restoration of the registration.

The decision to cancel the registration of the vehicle was made as the number of defaulters is increasing gradually.

During checking of vehicles on roads the officials of the excise and taxation often find token tax defaulter, it added.

Over non-payment of the token tax the officials of the department fined the owner of the vehicles, the office said, adding that however, the fine do not make any difference, as the officials caught such vehicles a couple of times.

Director Excise and Taxation Bilal Azam Khan has asked the vehicles’ owner to pay the token tax immediately to avoid any legal action.
