SARGODHA: The sewer line on Noori Gate Sillanwali UP Church Road caved in on Tuesday in the wake of the closure of the disposal works for repairing the rupture of main drain passing under the Lower Jhelum canal.
This line along with main disposal drain was laid in 2012-13 which has almost completed its normal life, says the experts and suggested replacement of drainage pipe otherwise it may cause major loss to the entire city.
Many surrounding areas were submerged due to the rupture of the pipeline of the sewer passing under the canal the other day.
Sargodha Municipal Corporation Chief Officer Zoya Baluch said owing to the repair of the Lower Jhelum Sewer Line crack, the Sillanwali disposal was closed for three days and the city’s sewer lines were burdened, which also caused a crack in the sewer line near Noori Gate.The repairs on the Lower Jhelum Canal sewer line are now in their final stages, she added.
Once that work is complete, repairs on the Noori Gate sewer line will begin immediately. Baloch said the city’s sewer system has slowed down due to the damage, but Municipal Corporation teams are working to restore normal operations.
She said all necessary safety precautions are in place and that technical teams from Faisalabad and Lahore are actively involved in the ongoing efforts to rehabilitate the city’s sewage system. Baloch also urged residents to conserve water during this period to ease the burden on the sewer system
KIDNAPPED: Some armed men stopped a car, broke its windowpanes and allegedly abducted a six-year-old child at gunpoint.
Reports said the armed men stopped the vehicle near Chak 6 SB of Bhalwal area and kidnapped Talib Ahmad Ali, nephew of car driver, at gunpoint and escaped. Police are looking into the matter.
ROAD BLOCKADE: Accusing the transporters of improper behaviour, a number of students protested by blocking Bhera Jhawarian Road and shouted slogans.
Dozens of college students blocked the road by erecting obstacles and chanting slogans. On this occasion, the protesters said the transporters deliberately delay the transportation of school and college students during the examination days.
Owing to the traffic jam on Bhera Jhawarian Road, people faced serious problems. However, the police reached the spot, talked to the protesting students and assured them of solving the problem.
