China expressed deep concern over tension in the Middle East and opposes violation of Lebanon’s sovereign rights, while calling for major global powers to play a constructive role to avoid tension escalation, its foreign ministry said, Reuters reports.

Failure in reaching a ceasefire in Gaza is the root cause of the tension, the ministry added, calling on all parties to achieve a “comprehensive and lasting” ceasefire in Gaza as soon as possible.
