Near 10,000 Palestinians in Israeli prisons, excluding many in Gaza
The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) has said in a statement that about 9,900 Palestinian prisoners were being held in Israeli prisons as of the start of August, but the number does not include all detainees being held in Israeli military camps in Gaza, Al Jazeera reports.
The number of Palestinians held under the so-called Israeli “administration detention” reached 3,432, according to the statement cited by the Wafa news agency.
It said there are 86 female prisoners in Damon prison alone, among them a pregnant woman.
The number of detained children is no less than 250, according to the PPS.
The organisation added that the number of Gaza detainees officially recognised by the Israeli military stands at 1,584, with many more believed to be held in camps.
