One dead in Tel Aviv explosion: emergency services

An explosion at a building in Tel Aviv has left one person dead and two lightly injured, an Israeli emergency services spokesperson told AFP.

An earlier police report had said seven people were lightly injured, but they were mainly in a state of shock, Zaki Heller of the Magen David Adom services said.

Police spokesman Dean Elsdunne said a body bearing injuries caused by shrapnel was found in the building.

The army says it is investigating a possible aerial attack, with an initial inquiry stating it was “caused by the falling of an aerial target”. “No sirens were activated,” the army said in a statement, adding that the air force had “increased its air patrols in order to protect Israeli airspace”.

Police warned “residents to respect safety instructions and not to approach or touch debris or shrapnel that may contain explosives”.
