Malaysia pledges $1m to UNRWA: report

Malaysia has pledged an additional $1m to UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, its Foreign Ministry has said in a statement, according to Al Jazeera.

The one-off pledge is in addition to the $5.2m Malaysia has given to UNRWA since November 2023, as well as the $200,000 Malaysia has committed to give each year from 2021 to 2025, the ministry added.

The shortfall has been made worse by the US withdrawing its funding to UNRWA. However, last week, 118 countries signed a letter expressing their shared commitment to supporting the agency both financially and politically.
