Ski, snowboarding championship concludes in Naltar
GILGIT: The Gilgit-Baltistan Winter Sports Association (GBWSA) emerged as the standout performer at Sadia Khan and Children Ski and Snowboarding championship that concluded at PAF Ski Resort of Naltar on Sunday.
The events were organised by Adventure Diplomacy initiative of Serena Hotels in collaboration with the Winter Sports Federation and Pakistan Air Force. The week-long events had started on February 11.
Total 62 athletes both male and female from seven teams of Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, Sindh, Swat, Adventure Foundation , PAF and Punjab participated in the events.
GBWSA secured a total of eight medals - two gold, three silver and as many bronze.
Among the notable achievers was GBWSA’s Mishal Hussain, who showcased exceptional versatility by winning two gold medals in skiing and one bronze in snowboarding.
Alongside, Khushim of PAF clinched two gold medals while Ifrah Wali and Fatima Ali of GBWSA demonstrated their skills with one silver and one bronze each in the skiing category.
Ayesha Akmal of PAF and Amina Sohail of GBWSA won gold and silver, respectively, in the national snowboarding competition.
The championship also witnessed the rise of promising young talents with Adventure Foundation Pakistan dominating U-16 girls’ skiing and PAF excelling in U-16 boys’ skiing. Overall, the event celebrated the resilience and passion of athletes in winter sports.
From daring downhill runs to graceful snowboard maneuvers, the young participants showcased their talent and tenacity with each exhilarating descent. Their infectious enthusiasm and sportsmanship embodied the very essence of Sadia’s spirit.
Nalter Valley is located in the Karakorum Range and is the oldest ski resort in Pakistan at 10,500 feet. It is situated about 34km from the Gilgit city. From snow-capped peaks to vibrant lakes, this hidden gem offers a perfect blend of adventure and serenity.
Naltar Valley is famous for its ski resort which attracts skiing enthusiasts from around the world during the winter season.
Earlier, a four-day National Winter Sports Festival concluded in the first week of this month in the same picturesque valley.
