Rahim Yar Khan’s PP-266 poll postponed as an aspirant dies

RAHIM YAR KHAN: A candidate from the Punjab Assembly constituency PP-266 (Rahim Yar Khan XII) died on Friday, resulting in postponement of poll by the ECP here.

A letter issued by Returning Officer (RO) Abdul Majid Khan on February 2 says that in light of the death cerificatle (No 7417) dated Jan 2 issued by Dr Aeman Hamdani, Woman Medical Office, Cardiology, Sheikh Zayed Medical College Hospital (SZMCH) RYK, it is confirmed Mr Israr Hussain, son of Talib Hussain, a candidate of Tehreek Javanan Pakistan has died.

Therefore, it says, in exercisc of the powers conferred upon on the RO under section 73 of the Election Act, 201 7, the proceedings of general election for PP-266 have been terminated with immediate effect.

His funeral prayers were offered at Chak 158-P, Sadiqabad, attended by hundreds of people from the area. The deceased was later buried in the local graveyard.
