Standing committee forms probe body: NA panel directs DPO to bring IUB scandal to logical end

BAHAWALPUR: The national assembly standing committee on education has directed DPO Bahawalpur Syed Muhammad Abbas to take all those academics and non-academics allegedly involved in IUB’s sex and narcotics scandal to task and bring the case to its logical end.

According to a press release issued here on Thursday by PRO Umar Saleem, the DPO briefed the NA standing committee at its session on Wednesday night in Islamabad chaired by Syed Samiul Hassan Gilani (MNA from Uch Sharif ) about the scandal unearthed last month.

The release said the DPO briefed the committee with solid evidence and complete proofs and informed the members that had an immediate action not been taken, the scandal could not have been unearthed. It claimed that the NA committee lauded the urgent police action.

The release quoted the committee as having announced that thousands of girl students of the IUB would not be allowed to be exploited or defamed by such blackmailers who would be exposed.

The NA panel constituted an inquiry committee comprising three vice-chancellors, led by HEC chairman. The VCs’ panel would be assisted by FIA and DPO Bahawalpur who would also provide guidance to the committee.

The release said further said that the committee also approved to put on ECL the names of all nominated in the case, including the IUB VC.

NA standing committee chairman Samiul Hassan Gilani in his statement posted on the social media said strict action against the culprits involved in the scandal would be taken.

He said the names of all related persons would remain on ECL till the decision on the scandal.
