TOBA TEK SINGH: A Miyawaki forest, covering 7,000 plants, has been established on six kanals in Kaleem Shaheed Park at Faisalabad on Narwala Road.
Commissioner Silwat Saeed and Deputy Commissioner Ali Annan Qamar inaugurated the Miyawaki Forest on Tuesday.
The commissioner said the monsoon planting campaign had been formally started. The target of planting 80,000 saplings had been set for Faisalabad.
She said at least six feet shade trees were being planted in this season, with a survival rate of over 90 per cent. She said along with planting, urban beautification measures were bringing significant changes to the environment.
Fountains that had remained closed for a long time on Canal Road have been made functional. In the Miyawaki Forest, trees such as arjun, almatas, kachnar, sikh chin, mulberry, jaman, pulkan, berries, mango, and others have been planted.
ROBBERY: Five robbers looted a branch of Habib Bank Limited in Faisalabad on Tuesday, in the Noorpur locality of Millat Road.
According to the Sargodha Road police, the robbers held guards, manager, and all staff hostage, collected Rs5.82 million from the counters and fled, also seizing a pistol from a security guard.
ACCIDENT: A bus ran over two motorcyclists in Faisalabad on Sheikhupura Road near Millat Chowk, resulting in one fatality and leaving the other critically injured.
Police said a textile mills bus was transporting workers to the mills when it, due to speeding, hit with the bikers from behind, causing critical injuries. Both victims were rushed to Allied Hospital, where Ghayoor Ahmad, aged 22, succumbed to his injuries.
The condition of injured Muhammad Umar was reported to be serious.
GCUF: Government College University of Faisalabad Vice Chancellor Dr Nasir Amin and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister and Chairman of the National Finance Committee Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh visited the Chiniot sub-campus of GCUF on Tuesday.
Chairman of the Higher Education Commission Prof Dr Mukhtar Ahmed was also present via video link.
The VC issued instructions to the project director to expedite the construction work and restore all departments at the sub-campus. He said that the increasing number of students at the Chiniot sub-campus within a short period of time is proof of the community’s demand for higher education for their children.
He said that additional departments were being established at the Chiniot sub-campus to facilitate modern education for the local children.
