TAXILA: A local court in Taxila on Thursday awarded a seven year imprisonment sentence to a man accused of attempting to rape a minor girl.

Additional Sessions Judge Khalid Mehmood Cheema announced the verdict after trial proceedings went on for around two years.

Taxila police station had registered a first information report (FIR) and arrested construction labourer Nasir Hussain for the crime.

According to the FIR, Hussain, resident of Jamilabad area, managed to deceive a six-year-girl to come with him to an under-construction house in Mohallah Parri and then attempted to rape her.

However, the accused ran away from the crime scene when the child started shouting for help. The judge also imposed a fine of Rs100,000 on the convict and in case of failure to pay the fine, he would have to undergo additional three months of simple imprisonment.

He was remanded back to prison to serve the sentence. The judge observed that the prosecution succeeded in proving the charge against the accused beyond reasonable doubt.
