Mahmood reviews progress on uplift project for cities

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cities Improvement Project (KPCIP) is an important scheme which, once completed, will change the entire landscape of the divisional headquarters.

He said the provincial government believed in fair and efficient use of public resources and the KPCIP would prove to be a milestone in providing better civic and recreational facilities to the citizens.

The chief minister said this while chairing a meeting to review progress on the KPCIP in the provincial capital.

An official statement issued here on Sunday said that the project worth Rs97 billion was launched for provision of civic facilities, including drinking water, establishment of green areas and other facilities, in five divisional headquarters.

The participants were informed that various projects for establishment of recreational parks worth Rs9 billion in Kohat, Mardan, Mingora and Peshawar districts besides establishment of sewage treatment plant in Kohat were ready for implementation.

The statement said agreements worth Rs7.5 billion had been signed for the establishment of water supply systems in Kohat and Peshawar, a sewage treatment plant in Mardan worth Rs8.3 billion and water supply network projects in Mingora worth Rs20 billion.

Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said KPCIP was one of the mega projects of his government and stressed that the related projects must be completed within the stipulated time.

He issued directions to expedite purchase of construction machinery, adding that the groundbreaking of the projects would be made once the machinery was mobilised.

The chief minister stated that development schemes were designed keeping in view the needs of various divisional headquarters to provide basic amenities to the people.

Chief secretary Shehzad Bangash, additional chief secretary Shahab Ali Shah, administrative secretaries of concerned departments, KPCIP project director and other concerned officials attended the meeting.

Moreover, Mahmood Khan performed the groundbreaking of different projects, including restoration of water supply system, establishment of new water treatment plant and uplifting of the old bazaar in Abbottabad city.
