Lumpy skin disease cases top 10,000 in KP

PESHAWAR: The number of lumpy skin disease cases has crossed the 10,000 mark in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after 1,238 more cases were reported in a single day, a report of the livestock department said on Friday.

It said that 59 animals died of the disease on Friday, taking the total fatalities to 316 in the province, where the total cases reported so far has reached 10,427.

Most of the animal deaths were reported from Dera Ismail Khan, where 35 animals died of lumpy skin disease followed by Kurram with 33 deaths.

Thirty animals died each in Lakki Marwat and Peshawar, while 24 died in Charsadda, 22 in Haripur, and 20 each in Khyber and Bannu, 16 in Nowshera, 19 in Karak and 10 in South Waziristan.

At least 154,292 animals have so far been vaccinated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa against the disease, while 6,626 animals are under treatment, according to the livestock department’s report.
