Small dairy farms being set up in tribal districts

BAJAUR: Livestock and Dairy Development Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, director general Dr Alam Zeb said here on Thursday that the government had planned several schemes for promotion of dairy sector in the tribal districts under which a number of small dairy farms were being established in every tribal region.

He was speaking to mediapersons during his visit to the under-construction small-scale dairy farms in different areas of the district. He said the schemes had been launched under the Accelerated Implementation Programme.

Dr Zeb said these dairy farms were being established on commercial basis across the tribal districts. He said the project titled “Integrated Livestock Development in Merged Districts” was meant to increase milk production in the region.

He said 37 such small farms were being established through public-private partnership in Bajaur tribal district for which cows and other required facilities would be provided by the livestock department.

Other officials on the occasion said 30 of these farms would be made functional by end of this month.

SEWING MACHINES FOR WIDOWS: Provincial minister for Zakat, social welfare and women empowerment Anwarzeb Khan has said that the provincial government is committed to empowerment of vulnerable segments of society.

He was addressing a function held at the district administration’s Jirga Hall in Civil Colony, Khar, to launch distribution of sewing machines among widows.

The minister said that sewing machines would be provided to over 1,000 widows across Bajaur district under the scheme.

He said widows, orphans and persons with disabilities were the important segments of society, and the government was taking steps for their uplift.

POWER SUPPLY RESTORED: Power supply has been restored in Bajaur tribal district after about a week.

“The power supply, which had been suspended for the last several days, has finally been restored in the district after removing faults in the transmission lines,” an official of the Tribal Electric Supply Company (Tesco) told Dawn the other day.
