GUJRAT: The two CT Scan machines at the Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital (ABSTH) have been out of order for quite some time.

Both the machines were provided through donations but their maintenance has become a daunting task for the hospital administration.

One machine is installed at trauma centre of the hospital where infrastructure and the whole medical equipment had been established by philanthropist Imtiaz Kausar in 2016 at a cost of around Rs130 million.

The other machine has been installed at Zahoor Elahi block of the hospital which was built by the Chaudhrys of the PML-Q more than a decade ago at a cost of around Rs100 million where the latest medical equipment was also provided by the family at that time.

ABSTH Medical Superintendent Dr Abid Ghauri told Dawn that one of the machines would soon become functional as its tube had to be repaired or replaced whereas the second machine at the trauma centre would also be functional after some time.

A source said the philanthropist family of businessman Imtiaz Kausar had decided to purchase a latest CT Scan machine worth around Rs40 million for the trauma centre.

The hospital administration was trying to get the existing machine repaired at the earliest, he said.

Mr Kausar said the CT scan machine had earlier got out of order more than a year ago and its tube was replaced at a cost of Rs4.7 million whereas the new machine was being imported from the USA for which process had already begun.

The new machine, he said, was expected to be delivered and installed in February 2022 whereas efforts were being made to get the existing one repaired soon as patients had been suffering a lot.
