Girl, two accomplices held for alleged extortion

RAWALPINDI: A 17-year-old girl along with her two accomplices was arrested for allegedly enticing people and then depriving them of large sums of money after getting rape cases registered against them.

According to police, she had been registering rape cases under fake names and two of her accomplices – one of whom was previously accused by her - have been arrested by the police.

Under the guise of compromise, the girl, a resident of Lahore, had already registered seven rape cases against people and defrauded them of more than Rs1 million.

The cases were filed in Jhelum, Dina, Sheikhupura, Lahore, Kasur besides two in Rawalpindi’s New Town police station, a police spokesman revealed.

New Town police had launched an investigation into a case reported to it by the girl against a university student. However, she turned out to be the member of an extortion ring that trapped innocent people through Facebook.

After befriending them, the girl allegedly registered rape cases against them and later two of her male accomplices negotiated with the suspects to extort money.

Police said she had extorted Rs400,000 from someone in Jhelum and Rs700,000 from a person in Lahore.

The girl used to entice men after befriending them on social media and then would have sex with them.

After committing the crime, she would get a rape case registered against the men and start blackmailing them for money, said the police.
