92 more test positive for dengue

LAHORE: Dengue cases continued to rise in Punjab on Thursday as 92 more people tested positive for the virus, including former Punjab governor Malik Rafique Rajwana, in the last 24 hours across the province.

Of them, 64 were reported from Lahore, taking the total number to 687 in the provincial capital and 828 in Punjab.

The health department said that at present 58 dengue patients were under treatment at public and private hospitals in the province.

In Lahore, 31 patients were getting treatment: seven each in Fatima Memorial Hospital and Mayo Hospital, four in Services Hospital, three each in Doctors Hospital and Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, two in Lahore General Hospital, and one each patient in Children, Farooq Hospital, Gulab Devi Hospital, Ever Care Hospital and Life Line Hospital.

Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare department Imran Sikandar Baloch directed the department to intensify the dengue prevention activities across the province.

He appealed to citizens to take special care of cleanliness and no garbage should be thrown in open places.

The health secretary said that precautionary measures against dengue are very important. Citizens should be more responsible in preventing dengue during monsoon; especially rainwater should not be allowed to accumulate in residential areas, he said.
