KASUR: Sara-i-Mughal Police on Monday arrested one of the three suspects who had allegedly shot dead a newly-married woman for resisting rape at Kot Ahmed two days back.

The suspects had shot dead 22 years old woman during a rape attempt to suppress her voice when she raised alarm. The victim had got married some months back.

According to complainant, three suspects, two of them unidentified, stormed into the house of the woman when she was alone. The accused attempted to rape her but she raised a hue and cry. The pistol-wielding suspect shot at the victim and they all had managed to flee. The injured woman died on her way to hospital.

Police lodged a murder case against three suspects on the complaint of the father of the victim. The first information report (FIR) states that the suspects used to tease the woman when she was a student at a school in Sara-i-Mughal town years back. The incident had created enmity between the families of the victim and the main suspect.

The FIR includes sections 302 (murder) and 34 (common intention) of the PPC.

Police arrested one of the suspects on Monday. SHO Muhammad Sharif said police were investigating from different angles, including honour killing.
