QUAID’S BIRTHPLACE: This refers to the article ‘Where was Jinnah born?’ (EOS, July 11). The writer deserves a pat on his back for having done a great job by compiling such an authentic report on the subject. I believe that through his arguments, duly supported by evidence which was made available for this purpose, he has settled this controversy once and for all.

ABUSIVE BEHAVIOUR: Everyone has the right to be respected. Just like any employee, the government servants must be treated with dignity and honour regardless of the grade they belong to. No one should be allowed to abuse them. It is disappointing to note that the government-employed domestic workers and drivers are treated badly by officers and their family members. This staff is appointed and paid by the government and they are not the officers’ personal servants. This segment of society must be protected. A law should be passed to treat everyone with respect, and tolerance must be maintained at all costs.

HARMFUL DRUGS: The use of drugs is very harmful to human health. People who get addicted ruin their lives without realising the damage they are causing to themselves. Young addicts fail to focus on their studies and spend their time and money on drugs. I advise the youth to stay away from this addiction.

SCREENING CRITERION: The latest screening test results came as a disappointment for many as the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Service Commission (KPPSC) had increased the passing marks to 60 after conducting the test and allowed only 25 candidates against each seat. Assessing candidates’ ability on the basis of a 100-mark MCQ paper is a flawed approach. The provincial government should ask the KPPSC to lower the bar and follow the same criterion that the Federal Public Service Commission does.
