Rs500m allocated for women’s empowerment: Sheeran

QUETTA: Parliamentary Secretary for Women Development Mahjabeen Sheeran has said that Rs500 million have been allocated for the economic empowerment of women in the 2021-22 budget of Balochistan.

Speaking after inaugurating the new building of the women development department on Saturday, she said the provincial government was implementing the vision of Chief Minister Jam Kamal Alyani for empowering women so that they could play a vital role in the uplift of Balochistan.

Ms Sheeran said that women development department was taking initiatives at divisional and district levels for the betterment of women and providing maximum facilities to them.

“The government has allocated Rs500m for the economic empowerment of women in the Public Sector Development Programme for the current financial year, which will do wonders for the uplift of women in the province,” the parliamentary secretary told media.

She said the women empowerment centers were being established in the province. “We are also going to establish digital libraries for women,” she added.

Ms Sheeran said the women development department would address the difficulties faced by the women imprisoned in jails of the province.

“Six women facilitation centres will be set up in the central jails of Balochistan,” she said.

The parliamentary secretary said the provincial government was committed to improving the condition of women in the province, especially for education of girls, for which a number of initiatives were being taken.
