Man kills four women of family for ‘honour’ in Sheikhupura

SHEIKHUPURA: A man killed four women of his family, including his old mother, in the name of so-called honour in the Bismillah Colony, Shahkot, Nankana Sahib district, on Saturday.

The suspect, identified as Shakil Akhtar, had suspicions about the character of his wife, daughter and the wife of his brother.

On Saturday, Shakil exchanged harsh words with his family members. His mother tried to argue with him but he did not listen to her. Instead, he got infuriated and opened indiscriminate fire on her and three other women members of his family. As a result of the firing, his mother Kaneez Fatima, wife Shabana, daughter Faiza and sister-in-law Zonara died on the spot. Shakil escaped from the scene.

The district police officer took notice of the incident and directed the Shahkot City police to arrest the killer as soon as possible.

In another incident, a suspect allegedly committed suicide in the washroom of the Safdarabad Police Station lock-up.

Police had arrested Taimur in a theft case and he was under interrogation. He went to the washroom, where he wrapped a piece of cloth around his neck and hanged himself to death.

District Police Officer Mubashar Makan appointed the SP investigation to probe into the matter.
