LAHORE: A private school on Friday wrote to the parents about their concerns over the implementation of the Single National Curriculum (SNC) without the provision of supplementary material.

The school says they are worried about the changes in the curriculum which will be implemented from the academic year 2021-22 for primary classes.

The Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board says that the model textbooks developed by the government will be used and no other textbooks or workbooks are permitted.

Private publishers may work on developing textbooks in conformity with the SNC after getting a no-objection certificate.

“Schools normally review textbooks for the coming year in February and March and the model textbooks have not yet been made available for review and would be available till May.”

According to their information, there will be textbooks in English for English, mathematics and science, textbooks for general knowledge, Islamiyat, social studies and Urdu in Urdu.

The school says private school administrations have always complied with lawful government directives and the SNC implementation would require a complete overhauling of the primary school programme in three months, an endeavour that would usually be carried out over several years, even with curriculum materials on hand.

The letter further states, “Providing a quality education while working within the constraints of the SNC will be challenging. If we are to continue preparing students for international qualifications, this will mean significantly increased work and pressure on students and teachers alike, especially at the middle and senior school levels.”

They also asked the parents that if they had some questions and apprehensions they would have to lodge complaints to the government and ministers.

Private School Association President Zofran Elahi told

Dawn the SNC was not available to them and the minister had announced holding a press conference over the matter on Feb 7.
