Pilac offers free gallery to young artists

LAHORE: The Punjab Institute of Language, Art and Culture (Pilac) has opened its newly-renovated art gallery for young artists to display their works free of cost.

The gallery has new panelling, lights and a fresh look.

Pilac Director General Dr Sughra Sadaf told Dawn on Tuesday that the gallery had been revamped and new lights had been fixed. She said the objective of the Punjab Art Gallery was to provide free of cost space to artists, especially young artistes, so that they could display their artworks.

Ms Sadaf added that private art galleries charged huge commissions from the artists and did not provide them with free-of-cost space. However, Pilac decided to provide a free platform to the young artists through this art gallery, she said.

The gallery would have a permanent section as well where portraits of poets, intellectuals, artists, sports personalities and individuals who had done commendable things in their lives would be on display, she said and added the permanent section would also feature the people who promoted and highlighted Punjabi heritage and culture.

Ms Sadaf announced that on the first exhibition at the gallery a grand ceremony would be organised in which television and film personalities would be invited along with leading personalities from the visual art domain.
