THATTA: A man and his grandsons busy having a dip in Sata Wah (irrigation channel) in Chauhar Jamali town drowned on Thursday. His other grandson was also missing and feared to have drowned.
The man was identified as Ghulam Hussain, 60, and his grandsons as Owais Basit, 12, and Faizan Abid, 14.
The victims were residents of Hijrat Colony, Karachi, and had travelled to Chauhar Jamali two days ago for a visit to the shrine of Shah Yaqiq, their relatives and area police said.
Onlookers said that Owais was trapped in a whirlpool and was sucked in. Ghulam Hussain and Faizan went after him to rescue him but none of them could come out of the whirlpool.
Local divers found bodies of Ghulam Hussain and Faizan after hours of hectic efforts but Owais could not be traced till late in the evening and was feared to have drowned.
