Militants slit throats of five in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, July 29: Suspected militants killed five Hindu men by slitting their throats in a remote village in held Kashmir, police said on Friday. They said three armed men attacked a group of Hindus on Thursday in a forest village some 200km southwest of Srinagar. No militant group has claimed responsibility for the killings, but police blamed Muslim guerillas.

Separately, witnesses said on Friday five people, including two TV cameramen, were injured when militants hurled a grenade and opened fire on a police post in the heart of Srinagar. Shopkeepers fled in panic after the incident in the central Lal Chowk area which destroyed a police vehicle, they said.—Reuters
