LAHORE: A city administration team seized a huge quantity of subsidised sugar being supplied to a known department store for sale in Township.
According to a spokesman, Deputy Commissioner Ms Saleha Saeed was tipped off on Wednesday about transportation of a considerable quantity of subsidised sugar through an official truck of the zonal administration (formerly town municipal administration) to a known departmental store in Township locality.
The DC assigned the task of tracing the culprits and getting them arrested to additional deputy commissioner (ADC) revenue, who sent model town assistant commissioner and sub-registrar to the spot.
“The officers raided the spot and found two officials—Hafiz Waqas and Neem Abbas—involved in transporting 4,000kg subsidised sugar in a truck (No LWC-1424) to the store. Since the sugar was supposed to be sold to the people visiting Ramazan bazaars, the team seized it on the spot,” the spokesman said in a press release.
He said FIRs had been lodged against the two suspects and the store owner, Mian Shahbaz, and his two employees -- Afzal Shah and Abdul Hameed.
“The store was also sealed by the team and further investigation into the case is underway,” he added.
