Progressive Pashto poet dies at 67

PESHAWAR: Noted progressive Pashto poet and research scholar, Taj Mohammad Amar, passed away here on Friday. Later, he was laid to rest in Gulberg Saddar graveyard. Poets, writers and fans attended his funeral prayer. He was 67.

He remained affiliated with progressive writers association. Born in Sufaid Sang village, his family shifted to Peshawar Gulberg where he used to compose poetry and conduct research on progressive writings.

Mr Amar’s first book titled ‘Resistance Literature Pashto and Hindko’ was published in 1995 while his second book ‘Pashto Short Story 50 years’ had come out in 2010. According to his family sources, three of his poetry collections could not be published in his lifetime.

The late poet was known for popular Pashto songs sung by many noted Pashto folk singers. He was great admirer of late Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and had affiliation with PPP.
