KARACHI: A new bilingual (English and Urdu) academic and research journal Tehseel published by the Islamic Research Academy Karachi has been launched, according to a statement.

The first volume (July-Dec 2017) contains research articles by scholars M. Ikram Chaghatai, Anwar Moazzam and Mohammad Hamza Farooqi, obituaries by Syed Munir Wasti and Jawaid Ahmed Khurshid, translations by Syed Hasan Abbas and Niaz Swati and book reviews.

The Urdu section carries a separate section dedicated to Allama Iqbal called ‘Gosha-i-Iqbal’.

Pieces by distinguished researchers and scholars Rafiuddin Hashmi, Suheyl Umar, Nigar Sajjad Zaheer and Arshad Mahmood Nashad have been included in the journal.

Another marked feature of the journal is the review of the famous allegory The Conference of Birds by great mystic poet Farid-ud-din Attar translated by Afkham Darbandi and Dick Davis. The review by Syed Munir Wasti describes the translation as “reasonably complete and competent”.

There is also an interesting piece in Urdu in Tehseel on the first Urdu dictionary.
