Teenage girl dies as tanker crashes into house in Karachi's Korangi

A teenage girl died and eight other people were injured when a speeding water tanker crashed into a house in Karachi's Korangi area on Tuesday morning, rescue sources said.

The massive tanker came crashing into the house in Darul Uloom colony before dawn when its residents were fast asleep.

The front walls of the house collapsed due to the crash. Rescue teams arrived at the site and pulled the trapped residents from under the debris.

A teenage girl named Noreen died in the incident.

The driver of the tanker, who eyewitnesses said was intoxicated when he crashed the vehicle, fled after the incident. Police are conducting raids to arrest him.

Some of the eight injured were said to be in a critical condition.

Enraged residents of the area refused to let rescue workers remove the wrecked tanker until the driver of the vehicle was arrested. Police also resorted to baton charge in the face of resistance from people of the area.
