MQM lawmaker survives armed attack
KARACHI: A lawmaker of the provincial assembly belonging to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan came under attack near his home in the Sakhi Hasan area on Saturday.
MQM legislator Ahmed Jamal came out of his home and was about to sit in his car when an armed man riding a motorbike approached him and loaded his pistol to take aim but his police guard standing at a short distance from his car sensed the danger and fired at the attacker. The attacker returned fire and fled, abandoning the motorbike at some distance, said SSP-Central Muqaddas Haider.
The motorbike was impounded, he said. Initial investigation showed that the number plate of the motorbike was fake, said the senior officer. He said that the spent bullet casing fired from a 30-bore pistol by the suspect was also seized and sent to the police’s forensic division to ascertain if that weapon had been used in any other crime.
SSP Haider said the police were investigating the case thoroughly to ascertain the exact motive for the attack. Another police officer was of the opinion that it could be an armed robbery attempt.
