Justice for domestic violence victim sought

QUETTA: The Madadgar National Helpline in Quetta has sought justice for Bakht Bibi, a victim of domestic violence.

Programme officer of the helpline Qamarul Nisa, Advocate Yasir and Bakht Bibi’s brother Zahir Shah addressed a press conference at the Quetta Press Club on Thursday.

They said Bakht Bibi had been mentally and physically tortured since her marriage and was locked in a room for three months by her in-laws.

She escaped from the house and sought refuge at a neighbour’s place who then took Bakht Bibi to a hospital. “A staffer from the hospital contacted Madadgar National Helpline and informed them about her case,” said the neighbour.

After the incident, an FIR was lodged against Bakht Bibi’s in-laws and three people were arrested.

The helpline program officer said Bakht Bibi’s mother-in-law had arranged for another marriage for her son.

The press conference panel requested the provincial government to treat Bakht Bibi free of cost and provide her justice.
