FAISALABAD: Kotwali police registered a case against seven people under section 7 of Anti-Terrorism Act and 337-H2 of the PPC for resorting to firing into the air on Saturday night to celebrate the victory of their candidates in the annual election of the district bar association (DBA).

Rana Ali Abbas, who won the slot of the president, got 1,286 votes against Naveed Mukhtar who received 1,055 votes.

Mehran Tahir was elected as secretary by securing 923 votes by defeating Malik Mehmood Hussain who remained runner-up with 772 votes. Abubakar Abdullah was been elected as joint secretary and Rukhsana Ansari as finance secretary.

The case has been registered on the complaint of Constable Muhammad Nawaz against Sameer, Fahad, Rafay and four unidentified persons. Of these, Rafay has been arrested. The suspects resorted to firing into the air in presence of police who did not dare arrest them. As the firing was happening, some of the infuriated lawyers tried to snatch cameras from media persons. However, the cameramen managed to escape from the scene.
