DERA GHAZI KHAN/ MUZAFFARGARH: Seraiki social worker, rights activist and head of Sindhu Bachao Tarla and Hirrak Development Centre Zafar Lund, who was shot dead on Thursday in Kot Addu, was laid to rest in an Ahmadi graveyard in Dera Ghazi Khan on Friday.
Lund, 55, was shot dead at the gate of his residence in Kot Addu, Muzaffargarh, by the two suspects. He was a native of Shadan Lund in DG Khan district.
The case of the murder of Lund has been registered with the Counter-Terrorism Department Multan under various sections, including 7-ATA, against the two unidentified suspects.
Meanwhile, condemnations continued pouring in from human rights groups and social workers.
Awami Raj Party leader Rana Mahboob Akhtar condemned the murder and alleged that the government had failed to protect Lund who was fighting for the people.
Awaz Foundation chief executive Ziaul Rehman said Lund was working to protect rights of the people of riverine areas and his killing showed the failure of the system. Hundreds of fishermen and flood affectees reached Lund’s house and his office to pay tribute to him.
Sources said Lund had received threats in June after he had gathered the people against Nespak that was working on a hydro project. He was planning a protest under the banner of Sindhu Bachao Tarla to resist the forced displacement of riverine community near Basti Allahwali due to the project.
