Police officer sent to prison in wife murder case

KARACHI: A district court sent on Thursday a senior police officer to prison in a case pertaining to the murder of his wife.

Superintendent of police Mian Jamshed Inamullah was booked for allegedly killing his wife Hina in their home in the Defence Housing Authority in July last year.

The case was registered under Section 302 (premeditated murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code. However, the police did not arrest the officer and submitted a charge sheet against him under Section 319 (unintentional murder) of the PPC in August.

While referring to statements of the SP’s servants, the investigating officer claimed that the suspect was cleaning a firearm when it ‘accidentally’ went off.

On the recommendation of the prosecutor, the court replaced Section 319 with 302 and issued a warrant against the SP, who was posted in Quetta, and directed the police high-ups to arrest and produce him in court.

The police brought the suspect before the court and District and Sessions Judge (south) Imdad Hussain Khoso sent him to prison on judicial remand.
