PESHAWAR: Five people — including two women and a child — were killed on Wednesday when a public bus fell into a flowing canal.

Another fifteen were injured in the accident that took place in the Katlang area of Mardan district.

According to sources, the bus was travelling to Katlang city with passengers from rural areas when it fell into a canal as it was under construction.

Five passengers lost their lives due to drowning, while 15 other passengers sustained injuries.

Sources said local people started a rescue operation in which they lifted the deceased and the injured from the water.

The injured were shifted to a local hospital for treatment.
