TOBA TEK SINGH: Relatives of a groom and bride scuffled with each other over haq mehar (dower) amount during a wedding ceremony at a banquet hall at Kamalia on Saturday, resulting in injuries to several guests.

Irshad of Khurshidabad locality told Kamalia city police that during his daughter’s wedding ceremony, a rift between two sides occurred over the amount of haq mehar (dower).

He said after exchange of words over the issue, some relatives of the groom belonging to Mamoonkanjun (Faisalabad) attacked him and his kin.

Police said the both sides pelted each other with crockery, injuring several guests.

The marriage hall management informed city police of the incident. However, the groom and his relatives fled away before the police arrived at the venue.

Later, Irshad contracted nikkah of his daughter with his nephew Shoaib Ahmad on the spot.

Irshad said he had given an application to Kamalia deputy superintendent of police for the recovery of dowry items from the groom’s house, also seeking registration of a case against the attackers.

MAN DIES: A man died while four people injured seriously in a road accident involving two cars and a motorcycle on Toba-Rajana road.

According to witnesses, two recklessly driven cars were going to Toba from Rajana when a motorcycle came from opposite side.

They said first both cars collided with each other and then hit the motorcycle. One of the car careened off the road and ran over some people standing by the road. As a result, Niaz, Sabtain, Nayar Sultana, Manzooran Bibi and Faiz were injured seriously.

They were shifted to the district headquarters hospital where motorcyclist Niaz succumbed to his wounds.

Meanwhile, in another collision between a car and a motorcycle, Naeema Bibi died and Shoban and Naseem Bibi were injured.

Sadar police said the injured were admitted to DHQ Hospital in a critical condition.
