Kidnapping, thrashing of warden: Accused lawyers go Scot-free

FAISALABAD: Traffic wardens are unhappy over a `reconciliation’ between the District Bar Association and officials of the traffic police after public trashing and kidnapping of a warden by some lawyers here on Wednesday.

Aggrieved wardens contend that the `unbridled’ lawyers would repeat this episode if no case was lodged against them.

Talking to Dawn, traffic wardens said the lawyers had crossed their limits on a number of on occasions in the past by subjecting policemen to torture even on courts premises.

“Thrashing of our fellow warden in public has frightened us and we will hesitate in implementing the law in future,” a warden said.

About eight to 10 lawyers had thrashed Faisal Usman, in-charge of Lorry Adda sector, on Wednesday when he challaned a vehicle owned by the brother of a lawyer, Khawaja Rehan, over wrong parking. The lawyers had also picked up the warden and took him to the bar office.

Lyallpur Town SP Atif Akram and others held talks with the lawyers and got Usman released after about an hour.

Bar secretary Kashif Sultan told Dawn that issue had been resolved amicably as both sides had been asked to ‘behave sensibly’ in future.

To a query that what action had been taken against the accused lawyers or any notice served on them, he replied in negative.
