NA speaker convenes meeting of the heads of parliamentary parties

ISLAMABAD: Speaker of National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Sunday convened a meeting of the parliamentary heads of all political parties in the National Assembly to hold consultations on Monday evening over the resignations submitted by Members of National Assembly belonging to the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI).

The meeting, which is expected to take place at the Speaker's chambers, was convened on the proposal presented by Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah belonging to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

Talking to Dawn, Syed Khursheed Shah said that he had spoken to Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and conveyed to him the message that the resignations of the PTI lawmakers should not be accepted in haste and added that if they were accepted, it would not prove helpful in defusing the prevailing political crisis.

Answering a question about former president Asif Ali Zardari's meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly said that the PPP fully supported the democratic system and made it clear that any extra-constitutional measures would rather be rejected with full force.

Shah said that Asif Ali Zardari would present the key points discussed with premier Nawaz Sharif during a meeting of the PPP's central executive committee.

He further said the party's future course of action would be decided by achieving consensus in the CEC session, adding that he would reach Islamabad from Karachi after attending the meeting.

The veteran PPP leader also rejected reports that the prime minister had offered Zardari to become the President of Pakistan.

Earlier during the day, a senior PAT leader Amir Fareed talking to Dawn.com had alleged that Sharif had offered the PPP leader to become the President of Pakistan.
