RAWALPINDI: The special court formed to try former president Pervez Musharraf for treason resumed the case's hearing on Monday, DawnNews reported.

The three-member court headed by Justice Faisal Arab of the Sindh High Court resumed the hearing during which Musharraf's lawyer Dr Khalid Ranjha presented his arguments.

Earlier during the hearing, chief prosecutor Advocate Akram Sheikh engaged in a verbal altercation with Rana Ejaz, who is another counsel for the former military strongman. Sheikh alleged that Ejaz had attempted to attack him.

Justice Arab intervened and said the altercation would be decided after a review of CCTV footage and instructed Dr Ranjha to present his arguments.

Meanwhile, during today's hearing of the judges' detention case, the special anti-terrorism court (ATC), accepting the request of the former military strongman, granted Musharraf exemption from appearing before it for today's hearing.

Public prosecutor Nadeem Tabish, attorney for Musharraf, Ilyas Siddiqui, and two of the former president's guarantors appeared before ATC special court judge Atiqur Rehman for the hearing.

Advocate Siddiqui submitted Musharraf's medical report and informed the court that his client had yet to make full recovery. He also asked the court to grant the former president exemption from appearing for the hearing of the case.

Prosecuting lawyer objected to the request saying Musharraf had failed to appear in several previous hearings and requested the court to take action against the retired general and his guarantors.

The court, after receiving assurances from Barrister Siddiqui, granted exemption to the former president from appearing for today's hearing and adjourned the case to Feb 24.
