Diya bags futsal title

KARACHI, March 29 Diya Women's Football Club Orange won the All-Pakistan Women Futsal Championship after beating Eco Adventure Club Islamabad 1-0 in the wee hours of Monday in Lahore.

The winning goal was scored by Sadia Sheikh on the 13th penalty kick in the sudden death round when no decision could be reached even after 12 penalties following a goalless match.

“We are so happy that we are returning to Karachi after winning all of our matches and conceding no goal,” reported a jubilant Sadia Sheikh from the train.

Diya beat Alimites 1-0 and LUMS 4-0 while drawing with Eco 0-0 and getting a walkover against LG Paragon in the round matches. In the semi-final, they beat LMBC 1-0 to reach the final where they edged past Eco to win the event.

Fatima Ansari and Kiran Yousuf, also of Diya Club, were named best players of the tournament.

Te day-long championship as organized by the Lahore University of Managament Sciences (LUMS).
